Congratulations to the Grace Prep Golf Team as both the boys’ and girls’ squads qualified for the state tournament for the first time in school history. The final tournament of the season will be played at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course on April 29 and 30.
The boys team finished 4th in the regional tournament behind top-10 finishes from seniors Noah Flynn (4th) and Clayton Phillips (8th). The same group won the TAPPS 4A District 2 tournament last week – their first district title since 2000. The Lions swept the first three individual honors at district with Flynn capturing the individual title, followed by Phillips and junior Andre’ Nunley. Grant Chelette, a junior, finished 9th at district. Sophomore Hudson Graber is the fifth member of the squad.
The girls captured 3rd place at regionals to claim their spot in the state tournament. Juniors Grace Barker and Nicole Faucher led the Lady Lions, finishing 7th and 8th respectively. The team also won its first-ever district team title with their victory in the District 2 tournament at Hidden Creek Golf Course a week ago. Barker claimed the individual district title with Faucher (5th) and senior Sierra Scala (6th) finishing in the top 10. Sophomore Layla Holsten and junior Cheyenne Mann are the other two members of the state-bound team.
Good luck to the Lion golfers!
