Congratulations to Drew Moore who was named NBC5 Wingstop Scholar Athlete for the month of October! Drew, a senior, just completed the cross country season where he finished 39th at the TAPPS 4A State Meet in Waco. In the spring, he’ll again play tennis, hoping to build on last year’s third place finish in state in 4A Doubles with his brother, Luke. Additionally, Drew is heavily involved in activities at school including starting both Mu Alpha Theta (math honor society) and HOSA – Future Health Professionals organization, as well as participating in National Honor Society, Business and Investing club, and serving as Vice-President of the Student Senate. The Grace Prep tennis squad sent two pairs of girls’ doubles teams, and a boys’ doubles team to the TAPPS 4A State Tournament held Monday and Tuesday at the Waco Regional Tennis Center. Seniors Claire Bullington and Kay Lee Sedwick made it to the championship round before falling to Apostalo and Yellitz from Austin Vertias. Their second place finish earned them Second Team All-State honors. Junior Drew Moore and freshman Luke Moore worked their way into the semifinal round of the boys’ bracket where they were defeated by Knoll and Marsh of Waco Vanguard. The brothers took home All-State Honorable Mention accolades. Sophomore Sara Gunn and freshman Caty Thompson made their first state tournament appearance, but fell to Menendez and Garcia of San Marcos Academy. Congratulations on a strong season!
The TAPPS 4A District 1 Tennis Tournament begins Thursday, March 28 at Arlington Tennis Center (500 West Mayfield Rd, Arlington, 76014). The Thursday-Friday event will have matches running throughout the day, with play beginning at 9:00 a.m. There is no charge to attend the tournament. The top six finishers in each division (boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, girls’ doubles) will qualify for the state tournament to be held April 8 and 9 at Waco Regional Tennis Center. Teams competing in the tournament include Grace Prep, Dallas Shelton, Flower Mound Coram Deo, Lubbock Christian, Lubbock Trinity Christian, Midland Trinity, Pantego Christian, Trinity Christian-Willow Park, Tyler All Saints, and Waco Vanguard. The Grace Prep boys’ squad is made up of seniors Sam Hall and Matthew Walraven, juniors Drew Moore and Riley Wambsganss, sophomore Samuel Ballesteros, and freshman Luke Moore. The girls varsity team is comprised of seniors Claire Bullington and Kay Lee Sedwick, sophomore Sara Gunn, and freshman Caty Thompson.

Grace Prep Tennis completed its run at the TAPPS 4A District 1 Tennis Tournament in Midland by punching a pair of tickets to the state tournament which will be held April 16-17 at Waco Regional Tennis Center. On the girls’ side, Claire Bullington and Kay Lee Sedwick finished second in doubles play. The finish gives Bullington a second straight trip to the state doubles contest. In the boys’ bracket, Nathan Holm and Drew Moore took home 6th place honors. Also competing for the Lions were Mackensey Culp, Hannah Turner, Nolan Parker and Bradley Scott in singles, and teams of Sara Gunn/Camden Graber and Matthew Walraven/Sam Hall in doubles.
