Brewer Inks Letter of Intent on Signing Day

Grace Prep quarterback Mason Brewer signed a letter of intent to continue his athletic and academic careers at Western New Mexico University. WNMU, located in Silver City, is a member of the NCAA Division 2’s Lone Star Conference. Brewer is a two-year football letter winner at Grace Prep, and has twice earned TAPPS Academic All-State honors, as well as second-team all-district honors at quarterback twice. In 2019, he also garnered honorable mention all-district honors as a punter. Congratulations to Mason and his family!

Six Ink Letters on Signing Day

Six Grace Prep student-athletes signed letters of intent on Wednesday to continue their athletic careers in college. The group represented three sports and signed with six different colleges and universities. Claire Bullington will continue her volleyball career at the University of North Alabama, a Division I school and member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. Maci Stewart will attend Dallas Baptist University and participate in both stunt and sideline cheer for the Patriots. Four players from the football team will also continue their playing careers. Quinton Browder will join the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist University, a member of Division II’s Great American Conference, as a linebacker. D.J. Oats has signed to play running back for the the Pac-12’s University of Colorado Buffaloes. Kameron Stokes will compete for the Memphis Tigers of the American Athletic Conference as a defensive back. Matthew Tucker will head to Wheaton College, a DIII member of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, to play slot back. Congratulations to these student-athletes and their families!

Lion Football Makes Positive Gains

Grace Prep’s fall athletics season wrapped up the Friday after Thanksgiving with the football team’s appearance in the TAPPS Division III Regional Playoff game versus Coram Deo. While the Lions came up short in their bid to advance to the state semifinals, the team made great strides this season under new head coach David Reese. The squad finished the season with an 8-4 overall mark and went 4-0 in district play, bringing home its first district title since 2004. Grace Prep was well-represented in Division III All-District 2 selections. Senior Matthew Tucker was named District 2 MVP, junior Tahj Chambers earned Offensive Player of the Year, and Reese was named Coach of the Year. Lions captured 11 spots on the all-district first team – seniors Quinton Browder, Jose Rodriguez, Kameron Stokes, Matthew Tucker (twice), Nolan Parker, and DJ Oats; juniors Kendon Johnson, Brice Butler, and Tahj Chambers; and sophomore Kyle Lehew. Eight second-team honors were taken by GPA players including seniors Rodriguez, Stokes, and Matthew Chester; juniors Butler, Chambers, and Mason Brewer; sophomore Daryn Carruthers; and freshman Reid Turner. The Lions also garnered seven honorable mention accolades – senior Chester (twice); sophomores Carruthers, Lehew, Jackson Shirer, Samuel Ballesteros, and Ethan Childress. Congratulations to the Lions for keeping the excitement of fall GPA athletics going!

Friday Night Lights… Football Playoffs Commence

Grace Prep’s varsity football team will begin its playoff journey on Friday, November 16 at 7:30 p.m. at South Grand Prairie High School. The Lions, with their record of 7-3 (4-0 District 2), will host Lubbock Trinity Christian (4-5-1) who finished fourth in District 1. Friday’s ticket prices are $8 for adults, $5 for students/senior citizens. As it is a playoff game, school IDs cannot be used for admission.
