The Grace Prep Varsity Baseball team under head coach Eric Darjean will open its season tonight when they host Fort Worth Calvary. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at AirHogs Stadium (1600 Lone Star Pkwy, Grand Prairie, 75050), the home of the independent league Texas AirHogs and all Grace Prep home games. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students (K-12)/seniors (65+). GPA students and staff are admitted FREE with their ID.
Four more Grace Prep athletes have committed to continue their athletics careers at the next level – two each in the sports of baseball and boys basketball. Teammates Kevin Pina and Garrett Vardeman will take their baseball prowess to North Lake College in Irving. The Blazers are part of the Dallas Athletic Conference and a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Pina is coming off a senior season in which he earned TAPPS District 3 first team honors with time spent at both first and third bases, as well as on the mound. This year while playing outfielder, Vardeman was named TAPPS Division III All State honorable mention, as well as District 3 Defensive Player of the Year and first team member. TAPPS 4A Boys Basketball District 3 MVP Evan McCarthy will be going to Wichita Falls where he will play for Midwestern State. MSU is a member of the NCAA Division II’s Lone Star Conference. McCarthy was integral in helping the Lions make their state championship run. His work on the court earned him all state first team honors, along with all-tournament and first team all-district accolades. Myles McCrary, a two-year member of the TAPPS 4A all-tournament team, is heading the McPherson College located in McPherson, Kansas. The Bulldogs are a member of the NAIA’s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. This season, McCrary was named District 3 Defensive Player of the Year in addition to being named to both all-state and all-district first teams. Congratulations to these young men and their families!
The Grace Prep Baseball Lions are heading to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Order your playoff shirt today at GPA Baseball Playoff Shirt. No extras will be printed, and orders close on Monday, April 22 at 11:59 p.m. Shirts will be delivered to school the week of April 29.
Four Grace Prep student-athletes signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level on Wednesday. The four represented girls basketball and baseball, and will be attending three different schools. Jada Anthony, a senior guard, will continue her basketball career at Bethel College, located in North Newton, Kansas. The Threshers of Bethel are a member of the NAIA’s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. Baseball players Jaime Mendoza and Josh Peterson are heading to Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) in Waxahachie. Mendoza, primarily a shortstop, and Peterson, a second baseman, will be competing for the Lions in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Pitcher Clayton Phillips is headed to Springdale, Arkansas where he will play for Ecclesia College. The Royals are a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association. Congratulations to these student-athletes and their families!
The high school baseball and golf teams celebrated their 2018 seasons with an awards ceremony recently. Grace Prep Baseball senior pitcher Reid Risenhoover signed a letter of intent on Wednesday to continue his baseball career at the collegiate level. Risenhoover, a four-year letterwinner, will join the Plainsmen next fall at Frank Phillips College in Borger. Congratulations to the Risenhoover family on this exciting occasion!
