The Grace Prep 7 on 7 football team fell short in a hard-fought battle for the TAPPS Silver Bracket state title Saturday. The Lions defeated Bryan Brazos Christian (41-40) and Bullard Brook Hill (29-19) to earn their sport in the title game versus Fort Worth Country Day. The Falcons needed triple overtime to defeat the Lions, 38-32. The TAPPS state championships were hosted at Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal, and featured 30 teams and four final-day brackets.
Grace Prep sent five teams to last week’s TAPPS Sand Volleyball Championships held at the Houston Sportsplex with three teams bringing home medals. The sister squad of Molly Davis (senior) and Bonnie Davis (sophomore) captured the Gold Bracket championship with a final match victory over Wineinger and Doucet from New Braunfels Christian Academy. Seniors Claire Bullington and Hannah Kinney, competing in the Silver Bracket, brought home runner-up hardware after falling to Kilgo and Cuba of Austin St. Michael’s. The freshman tandem of Abigail Kunasek and Becca Turner finished runners-up in the Platinum Bracket, losing to Hradzil and Clark from Wichita Falls Christ Academy. Also competing during the tournament were Courtnie Crayton and Hannah Reeves in the Bronze Bracket, as well as Kati Rod and Ellie Wilberding in the Diamond Bracket.
