Last week, the Grace Prep sophomore class participated in a three-stop Texas College Road Trip. Forty-seven students and six adults spent three days on the road visiting three uniquely different college campuses in Texas. The schools visited were Texas State University, University of Texas-San Antonio and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Students were treated to campus tours and food court lunches, as well as athletic facility, classroom and dormitory visits. In addition to the college visits, the sophomores spent an evening in historic Gruene, Texas, as well as a FUN afternoon at SeaWorld San Antonio. The class of 2020 is already preparing for the future!
Forty-six Grace Prep juniors and eight adults enjoyed an overwhelmingly powerful experience during their Washington, DC class trip. Students got to know each other in deeper and powerful ways, and got to know God more fully. Over the course of the five-day trip, the group explored many sites and activities of our nation’s capital. One unique experience was a personal and private, after-hours tour of the Capitol building. Included in that was a significant time in the House of Representatives Chamber, which culminated in the group partaking of communion there. DC was an enlightening visit for the class of 2019.
The 2018 senior class took on NYC this past week during their senior trip. While they visited all the iconic sights in the Big Apple, the seniors had a final chance to strengthen friendships before they go their separate ways at graduation. From visiting the emotional and powerful 9/11 Memorial Museum to seeing “Wicked” on Broadway, the class embraced and enjoyed every moment to its fullest. The trip was definitely a 10 out of 10!

Following a morning walk-through send-off from elementary Lions giving high fives, the boys basketball team headed for Waco and a third meeting with district opponent Colleyville Covenant. The teams split the first two games of the season, and today’s was a battle from the beginning. While the Lions held the lead for much of the game, the Cougars wouldn’t go away. Grace Prep stretched its five-point halftime lead to 10 at the end of the third quarter, and despite another rally by the Cougars, the Lions claimed the 74-67 victory to send them to Friday’s championship game. Grace Prep will take on The Woodlands Christian for the 4A state title at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at West High School. School will run on an alternate bell schedule – dismissing at 12:10 p.m. – to allow GPA students, staff and families to attend the contest.
To help send the boys basketball team off in style to the TAPPS 4A State Final Four, the cheerleaders put together a “Solid Gold”-themed pep rally on Wednesday. The rally featured a dance-off between members of the basketball team with sophomore Brandon Lawrence claiming victory, and routines performed by the cheerleaders. The highlight of the event, though, was the teacher dance contest – including Coach Smith’s “Worm”. The basketball team will take on Colleyville Covenant in the state semifinal Thursday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Waco University High School.
