Overview of M/W/F Schedule

The secondary school at GPA is comprised of the junior high school and senior high school levels. Attendance is modeled after a college experience, with students attending classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. (Some honors courses and electives are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays.) The majority of our students take a full load of classes in pursuit of a diploma from GPA, and academic advising ensures all students are on track to fulfill graduation requirements.

7th thru 8th grade

The junior high years are a significant time of transition. Students are growing rapidly and are at the threshold of young adulthood. To help students navigate this period successfully, the teachers and staff at GPA continue to work alongside parents and provide the necessary emotional support and counsel that is often required in guiding students to make wise choices and decisions. Social events are planned and healthy group interaction is encouraged. The core subjectsEnglish, Math, Science and Social Studiescontinue to be the foundation for all academic pursuits. Several electives are also offered to our junior high students, including computers, Spanish, journalism and drama. In addition, team athletics are offered for the first time, and goals for teams are rooted in the values of learning and improving the skills necessary for later success at the more competitive level of high school sports.

9th thru 12th grade

As students move through the high school years, classes become more college-like in both their subject matter and work load.  Coverage of material becomes more concentrated, course content gradually becomes more rigorous, and expectations of students reflect the standards of a college-preparatory high school. The development of good writing skills is considered a pillar for success in all areas of study, and course content seeks to prepare students for smooth entrance into college academics.  As course content increases in difficulty, students must make the transition away from dependence on parents as the primary motivators for completing assignments. This calls for a student's increased commitment to good study skills and a willingness to take charge of his or her academic success. Without such intrinsic motivation, the transition to college will be difficult.

Because Grace Prep firmly believes that a well-rounded education is not limited to the classroom, we offer a full slate of student activities, including clubs, class-specific activities, school-wide activities, and academic competitions between other schools.  An assortment of competitive athletics are also offered as elective credit in the last period of the day. Coaching concerns shift from teaching fundamentals to perfecting the skills and teamwork needed to compete successfully in our district, region, and state.

Option for Homeschoolers

Homeschool students not seeking a diploma from Grace Prep are encouraged to select the courses that will benefit them in attaining their educational goals. These students are welcome to take up to two classes if space allows. As such, they pay for only those classes they take plus a $25 registration fee. (Family fees and normal student registration fees do not apply.)
