 Valentines for Vets Minimize

We are asking Grace Prep students and families to honor our vets by making Valentine's Day cards to be delivered to VA hospitals in Fort Worth and Dallas. Please turn your cards in to the front office by Thursday, Feb. 9th. Be sure to include a Bible verse, encouraging words, and a note of thanks. Only write first names on cards, and do not include personal photos. For those who would like to participate at school, valentine supplies are in the library and will be available for use during elementary study halls. GPA art classes will be participating as well.

Welcome to Our Library!

Those who are frequent visitors to the Thelma Massey Library know that it is a very special place! Pam Saunders, our librarian, has been with us since 2001, and most of us know that she does so much more than check out books. Aside from managing the school store and elementary lunches, you might frequently find her assisting students with their research and writing or encouraging them to get involved in any of a number of elementary reading programs. She has a BA in political science from West Virginia University, and she worked in advertising and taught English and composition in various community colleges for several years before joining us. Above all, “Mrs. Pam’s” heart’s desire is to reach our students for Christ. The library frequently becomes a house of prayer.

“It is such a privilege to enter into prayer with and for our families, especially when the students approach me and ask me to pray with them. This is a special blessing from our Lord: to be able to intercede in prayer, without regard for place, time, or circumstance, with His children and for His children, including parents and grandparents. So many times we intercede especially for extended family members to come into a knowledge of who Jesus is, what He can do, and how much we need His indwelling Spirit to enter into all of us.”

  Scholastic Book Fair
Minimize

Every year Grace Prep hosts a Scholastic Book Fair which benefits our very own "Lion Library." The Scholastic Book Fair is a 3-day event that is held in the fall and is run completely by parent volunteers. The Book Fair not only raises money to help toward purchases for our library, but it also allows Grace Prep to promote literacy amongst its students and allows individual teachers the opportunity to grow and supplement their curriculum. The Book Fair includes contests which benefit individual students and teachers, plus allows students the opportunity to purchase books as gifts for their teachers.

This year's theme was "To the Book Fair and Beyond." The final "numbers" for our Fair this fall (2011) were as follows:

  • Total sales included $3547.97 (a $200 increase over last year!)

  • We received $886.99 in CASH (a $100 increase over last year!)

  • We received $259.62 in free books for the GPA Library!

  • We were given $75 in free books to use for raffles, so Mrs. Walraven, our winning teacher, received $50.00 of free books and Curt Leland, a 6th grader, received $25.00 in free books.

  • We collected $7.14 for our “One For Books” Campaign which was utilized to purchase books for our library!

  • The individual grade winners for the annual Book Fair coloring contest are as follows:
    Kindergarten – Aubrey Yingling
    1st Grade – Asher deMontalvo
    2nd Grade – Adam Gordon
    3rd Grade – Ryleigh deMontalvo
    4th Grade – Caden Primm
    5th Grade – Isabella Olguin
    6th Grade – Ryan Hall

These winners each received a $5 gift card to Sonic and a Hershey’s Bar.

Thank you GPA families who helped make this year’s fair a success!
